Success story - David Baker, completion of instrumentation & controls apprenticeship

19 Mar 2013

David’s story as explained by his Field Officer Ben.

David signed with 1300apprentice to commence an Instrumentation and Control apprenticeship. I had the pleasure of overseeing his apprenticeship in the later stages, to completion. When I first meet David, he presented as someone passionate and genuinely interested by his field of study. When he explained to me some of the tasks pertaining to his role, it was evident that he was not only passionate about his apprenticeship but extremely knowledgeable.

David’s passion and knowledge of the trade have led him to win 3 “Above and Beyond” awards from his host, “3rd Year High Achiever” award from 1300apprentice and a worthy nominee for “1300 Apprentice of the Year”.

In the latter part of his apprenticeship, David would autonomously conduct scheduled maintenance on large buildings such as King St Wharf and Royal North Shore Hospital. If there appeared to issue David would identify, quote and resolve any problems to customer satisfaction.

When David was asked by 1300apprentice, what he liked most about our services, David commented

“1300 apprentice helped me in many ways during my apprenticeship. When I first finished school I went to a careers expo and handed my résumé out to the staff at the 1300apprentice stand. Within a week I was called in for an interview as well as a basic Math’s test and English test. After this 1300apprentice started looking for an apprenticeship that I was interested in and within a few weeks I went for an interview with my host employer. 1300apprentice helped me from the start until I completed my apprenticeship early in February this year. They provided me with mentoring, all my PPE and were very helpful when I had any questions or concerns”.

At the end of his apprenticeship, his Host offered him a full-time position with the company, and David is now considered a valued member of the team. What’s more impressive is that the current Host has continued to engage more apprentices from our Company, and David is now a tradesman who mentors and trains them.
